Preserving & Canning

Le Parfait glassware has been authentically made in France since the early 1930s and is recognized globally for superior quality.

Le Parfait means ‘the perfect’ and ‘Familia Wiss’ means ‘Wiss Family’. ‘Wiss’  pronounced ‘Viss’ in French, comes from ‘visser’, to screw, and ‘Familia’ means ‘family’.

These are hefty, substantial jars made from annealed glass in Puy-Guillaume, Auvergne, France. You will achieve an excellent seal that will easily last for well over a year, unlike the other familiar brands.

The Familia Wiss jar mouth sizes of 82mm, 100mm and 110mm are different from the current North American ‘standard’ of 70 mm and 86 mm. This makes them much nicer to work with, having an extra wide mouth makes filling so much easier!

Le Parfait uses different terminology than you might be used to.

  • They call the solid-centre screw band a ‘screw lid’.
  • They call the flat metal lid part variously ‘sealing cap’ (US), ‘sealing disc’ (UK) and ‘capsule’ (French).
